Our Story

One man, one instrument, 35 years of bringing the sounds of nature to people's hands.

The Original Birdy Whistle craftsmanship

35+

years of craft

Ronald Huisman & the whistle he never stopped improving.

It started in 1990. Ronald Huisman — a craftsman with a deep love for nature and a talent for acoustic design — began selling bird whistles on the squares and markets of Amsterdam. Not factory-made novelties, but instruments he had designed and built himself.

Over three and a half decades, Ronald refined his creation continuously. The result is today's Original Birdy Whistle: a small, durable precision instrument with a metal resonator membrane that produces remarkably authentic bird calls — the kind real birds actually respond to.

Ronald became a familiar face across Amsterdam. Locals and tourists alike would stop, listen, and leave with a whistle in their pocket and a smile on their face. Word spread. The whistle became something of an Amsterdam legend.

Today, after 35 years, the Original Birdy Whistle is available online — for the very first time at scale. Same whistle. Same craft. Now delivered anywhere in Europe.
